Turnpike Basketball Awarded FOUR Honors from FCYBL This Season!

We have EXCITING NEWS to share!

This week, the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL) announced the Most Valuable Players (MVP), Most Valuable Coaches (MVC), and All League players for each division in the league. With only three travel basketball teams participating in the FCYBL this season, Turnpike Basketball Club is one of the smaller programs in the league (if not the smallest). We are proud to announce that Turnpike was honored with FOUR FCYBL awards this season – one Most Valuable Player, two All League players, and one Most Valuable Coach!!

Congratulations go to:

  • Jahleel Jackson, who earned the Most Valuable Player award in his 6th grade division. Coached by longtime Turnpike Basketball Club Coach Lennie Ours, Jahleel led his team in points, assists and steals, resulting in an 11-2 record in the team’s regular season and a #2 seed in the division playoffs which are currently underway. Worthy of note: This is the fourth time in six seasons that Turnpike has produced an FCYBL Division MVP.  Jahleel joins 2-time MVP Brian Hennessey (W.T. Woodson HS Varsity player) and Matthew Maribojoc (Thomas Jefferson HS varsity player), who have helped lead their respective teams to the VHSL Regional playoffs this season. We will expect Jahleel to have similar success in his future basketball endeavors!
  • Victoria Deal, who was selected as an All League player in her 5th grade division. Victoria plays for her father Doug Deal, and together they helped lead their team to the FCYBL playoffs in their first year competing in a travel league. A great accomplishment for this young team!
  • Jack Garwood, who was selected as an All League player in his 5th grade division. Jack’s up-tempo offense and pressing defense made him a key player for Coach Mike Battaglia this season. Jack and his teammates have laid a solid foundation for future success with their exciting brand of play.
  • Coach Lennie Ours, who was honored with a Most Valuable Coach award in his team’s 6th grade division. Lennie is a long-time Turnpike Basketball Coach and has had many successful seasons with many different teams. He has been working with his current 6th grade team since last season (5th grade) and expects great things from the team over the next two seasons of play in the FCYBL.

Turnpike Basketball’s future is BRIGHT with Jahleel, Victoria, Jack, and Coach Lennie leading the way! Congratulations to all three travel teams on a great season!
